After years of dedicated service, Valley City, North Dakota, Mayor Dave Carlsrud retired in March from the MRES board of directors with a legacy of steady leadership and focus.
Carlsrud served six years on the MRES board, including as fourth vice chair. He was drawn to MRES by its strong municipal power mission and culture, often emphasizing that “our employees are our most valuable assets.” He took pride in the organization’s teamwork and the quality of service provided to member communities.
As mayor since 2016, Carlsrud brought a thoughtful, service-first approach to decision-making, focused on being informed and doing “the next right thing.” His leadership helped guide important decisions and maintain stability through challenges.
He also valued MRES’ role in supporting members through expertise, training and reliable energy services.
In retirement, Carlsrud looks forward to slowing down, golfing and spending time with family, while encouraging future leaders to stay informed and treat people right.
