| Joint Action
|
| Joint Action means that each of our members cooperates with the others in an effort to achieve success in the operation of their electric systems.
Joint action has taken the form of one member helping out another in an emergency situation such as a power outage. It has been demonstrated by the members' willingness to commit to large, long-term indebtedness to provide efficient, reliable electric generation and transmission facilities. It has meant assistance in arranging for the delivery of power to individual members and groups of members. And it has brought ever-improving communications between Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) and its members that help all to stay informed about relevant ideas and issues.
MRES was the first multi-state joint-action agency, and the third overall, to be established in the United States. The first two joint-action agencies were both in the State of Washington.
Joint-action agencies affiliated with MRES have been established in each of the four states where our members are located. The Western Minnesota Municipal Power Agency was established in 1976, followed by the North Dakota Municipal Power Agency in 1977, the Missouri Basin Municipal Electric Cooperative Association in 1978, and the South Dakota Municipal Power Agency in 1979.
